Does Jesus Still Heal Today?

Jesus’ blood paid for our sins, (Isaiah 43:25; Hebrews 9:14-15). Jesus’ sacrificial, unconditional love provided our way to enjoy a personal relationship with Him. But that’s not all!

On the cross Jesus also acquired our healing. “He heals all your diseases, (literally deadly diseases)” (Psalm 103:3). “… the punishment needed to obtain peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes that wounded Him we are healed and made whole” (Isaiah 53:5).

One morning after discussing and studying Scriptures with my husband about healing and living a supernatural lifestyle, we happened to face a great opportunity. Driving through our neighborhood, we happened to see our neighbor at his mailbox. Feeling compelled, we stopped.  Immediately, he shared about his severe back pain. It had him confined to bed for several days.

Ordinarily, we tell the suffering person, “we’ll pray for you,” and go on our way with the best intentions to uphold that one in prayer. But this time was different. John prayed for him on the spot. With our faith bolstered, wrapped in God’s grace, and infused with the promise of Jesus’ resurrection power, John prayed healing for his back. Our neighbor graciously thanked us.

The next day, our neighbor phoned. He reported, “The pain is gone.” Amazed, he said, “it’s miraculous, I can’t believe it.”

Jesus’ passion to heal “various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures and the paralyzed” never changes. His mission to do supernatural works continues through us as we obey His commission to deliver His works equipped with His resurrection power! (Ephesians 1:19-20). Imagine doing the same miraculous works and more! (John 14:12; Acts 10: 37-38)

Too often deception grabs my heart. Constant messages come through religious traditions, through friends, and through the world system. They appeal to my emotions and my intellect, keeping God’s healing power and my authority imprisoned, rather than employing it.

Rapha is one of God’s names. Rapha literally means “to heal of personal distress, of national hurts, make healthful, physician.” Jeremiah believed and prayed,Lord, grant me relief from my suffering so that I may have some relief. Rescue me from those who persecute me so that I may be rescued,” (17:14). The literal translation is: “Heal me so that I may be healed, rescue me so that I may be rescued.”

Jesus said, “All I have is yours and all you have is mine,” (John 17:10.) He expects you and me to heal. There’s no excuse for powerlessness because no one can resist the great Physician or challenge His authority.  Let’s interact with the Holy Spirit and do what the Father is doing. It’s our responsibility to receive and deliver the healing Jesus paid for on the cross.

  1. Been at both ends of this spectrum Pam. Jesus healed my first wife Ellen of blindness when she was 24. Nineteen years later, after praying fervently for her healing from heart and kidney failure, Ellen passed away. Today my wife Ann suffers greatly every day from paralysis and damage to her nerves. She is in constant pain. I have prayed daily for her healing since 2002. She has been in a wheelchair since 2008. Even so, I continue to pray and believe for her healing. Won't you join me? Thanks.
